Liberal Arts

Study art history, history and architecture of Barcelona, Spanish traditions and Spanish language (Castellian) during a summer abroad in Barcelona, Spain. Learn, improve and practice Spanish from a wide variety of subject areas within the liberal arts and social sciences.

SpainBcn-Summer Programs for College and University students are designed for students with all levels of Spanish who wish to take courses in Spanish and/or English from a variety of subject areas within theliberal arts and social sciences. The objective Courses are designed to teach students about the diverse history, politics, culture, economics and art of Spain, Barcelona and the European Union. The diversity in curriculum allows the flexibility to choose courses that best meet student's academic and personal needs.

* Making friends from all over the world, learning about a different culture, international practices and world views is a must.
* Gaining self-confidence through independent international experiences in a safe enviroment is a plus.
* To have fun while living a a rich and very interesting experience is the objective.
* Students will experience Barcelona through cultural activities, social meetings, Historical walks and excursions, orientation and more.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Students have to select one of the following courses (No knowledge of Spanish required). Most electives are taught in English but students are highly encouraged to take the intensive Spanish language classes to be able to get more out of their Study Abroad Experience.
1.- Art History and Architecture of Barcelona.
2.- Introduction to contemporary Spanish history, politics, society and culture.
3.- European Union.

Classes will offer to the students the opportunity to explore relationships between art, language and history. Students are expected to actively participate in their classes. You can opt to take all of your courses in English or to take electives in Spanish if your level of language allows you to do that.

CLASSES: Courses are designed with components which expose students to different elements of the city from monuments and museums to businesses, local food markets, and government agencies. The content of the classes will focus on Barcelona, Spain and the Mediterranean cultural and History and include a diversity of interesting classes about Spanish Culture, International Business, History, Art and more. All courses have been designed specifically for an international student group.

TIMETABLE OF CLASSES: The classes in the Liberal Arts Program are held from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm daily Monday through Thursday and from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm on Fridays. Other schedules are also possible. Contact us regaring your exact timetable of classes, depending our your program dates.

SPANISH CLASSES (OPTIONAL): All participants of the Liberal Arts Summer Program can choose to attend the daily Spanish language course held early in the mornings from 9 am. to 11 pm, Monday through Thrusday and/or in the afternoons, some days per week.

CULTURAL PROGRAMS: Students are encouraged to explore and they are challenged to draw connections between the subjects they are studying and their observations outside of the classroom which include: Historical walks and social meetings in the afternoons. Some workshops and social group activities are also scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
Friday afternoon is free. Saturday is the group excursion to visit other interesting locations on the Mediterranean coast.

CALENDAR Classes are typically held Monday through Thursday in the mornings or early afternnons. Social activities are usually organized in the aternoons. According to selection of matter and your dates, your course schedule may not be available until one month before your arrival in Barcelona. This is a example:
